This concert was a source of much rage and anger. Hayden under no circumstances was going to get on that stage and play a "stupid recorder" for people to see. "The recorder is the stupidest instrument that makes the stupidest noise" and he was not having it. He refused to go to music class for the entire month and he was NOT getting on that stage! He even broke his recorder so that he did not have to play it.
But low and behold his teacher had a recorder for him to borrow and she told him "you could pretend to play it. Just put it up to your mouth and pretend to play it." (His teacher is an angel!) Hayden decided that "pretending to play the recorder" was something he could do and he bravely got up on that stage and pretended like a rock star!
